The Illinois State Police district 1, will conduct a Raodside Safety Check in Whiteside County this weekend. The State Police have zero tolerance for impaired driving in Illinois. Officers working the detail will be watchful for drivers who are operating vehicle in an unsafe manner, driving with a suspended or revoked license, transporting open alcoholic beverages, or driving under the influence. Roadside Safety Checks are designed to keep the roads safe by taking DUI offenders off the road. The project is funded through the Illinois Department of Transporation, Division of Traffic Safety.
A combined total of more than 1,000 roadside safety checks, safety belt enforcement zones and other enforcement activities will take place during the St. Patrick's Day period. According to date, during the last five years in Illinois, 10 people lost their lives in motor vehcle crashes on St. Patrick's Day including 3 deaths during St. Patrick's Day 2012.
