Future of Lake Sule in Rochelle

The Rochelle Stormwater Advisory Committee heard an update report yesterday evening on the possibility of a detention area for Lake Sule which is located on the south side of the Hub City.

There had been some talk about either lowering or raising the lake in the future. At the present time, the deepest portion of the lake is about 16 feet.

City Engineer Sam Tesreau said that at the present time, the water level in Lake Sule will remain the same. He said any changes would affect the fishing and boating for local residents.

Tesreau also talked about the recent flooding in Rochelle during the past few days due to the melting of the snow and some rain. Standing water was seen in many flood plain areas.

Progress continues to be slow for the flood plain elevation study involving Rochelle. The Department of Natural Resources as the information for the next 30 days. It will then be sent to FEMA who will take 6 to 9 months to complete their report.
