Details are still being worked on between the City of Rochelle, park district, and Gredco dealing with the golf course property and lease agreement.
The city and park district plans to purchase the 73.5 acres of land at a cost of $800,000. Gredco would have a 3-year lease to run the golf course and possible restaurant operator.
During yesterday's program "Let The People Know", Rochelle Mayor Chet Olson talked about the response he has received in using taxpayer's money to purchase the property. He said the majority of people are in favor of keeping the area open in green space.
He also said the city controls the zoning of the property, but would probably lose the case in court if a housing project would come to town.
All 3 parties are expected to meet later this month. Gredco wants to open the facility by April 1st.
