Former Dixon Comptroller Rita Crundwell was back in Lee County court Monday as she faces 60 counts of stealing money from the city.
Crundwell plead guilty last month to the federal offense of wire fraud and received a sentence to nearly 20 years in prison. She stole more than 53 million dollars from the city of Dixon during a 20 year period.
Lee County officials have yet to decide if any additional charges will be filed against Crundwell. Her attorney would like the charges in Lee County be dismissed due to her guilty plea in federal court. They are citing "Double Jeopardy" since she is already serving time for the crime in her federal court case.
Crundwell appeared in court yesterday via video conference. She is currently be held in the Boone County jail, but was transported to Dixon yesterday.
A new hearing in Lee County has been scheduled for April 1st. Crundwell used the money she stole to run a horse business along with a lavish life style that included homes and vehicles.
The Lee County case involves 11 million dollars stolen from the city of Dixon during a 2 year period.
