Progress continues to be made by city officials in Rochelle dealing with the quiet zone issue involving trains that travel through the Hub City.
Between 80 to 100 trains use the 2 railroads on the average each day. There are a total of 11 crossings between the Burlington Northern Santa Fe and the Union Pacific Railroads in Rochelle.
Business Development Director Scott Rozanas said that the goal is to have as many quiet zones as possible at the railroad crossings.
1 wayside horn would cost the city around $170,000.
The exact cost for the project has not been finalized at this time. Rozanas said they have seen a reduction from the original numbers for the work at the crossings.
The city is expected to have future public meetings on this issue later this year.
