Winnebago school board names new Superintendent

The Winnebago School board has named current Iroquois West Upper Elementary School Principal Scott Bloomquist as it's new Superitendent. He will take over the district this summer as Winnebago has 16 hundred students.

Bloomquist will replace Dennis Harezlak who plans to retire at the end of the school year. He has been Superintendent at Winnebago since 2002.

The top 2 candidates for the position were Bloomquist and Rochelle Township High School Principal Travis McGuire. 25 people had applied for the position. The Boone/Winnebago Regional Office of Education conducted the search for the district.

1 of the major reasons the board chose Bloomquist was his number of years in education. The board was also looking for a person who could communicate, a financial steward of the district, along with someone who would have a long-term vision and planning along with being community minded.
