Here's a reminder to be careful with electric heaters. State officials say the warming units were responsible for many of the eight thousand fires were reported last winter. But the Fire Marshall says there are things people can do to minimize their risks. For example, be sure to keep the heaters away from sheets, clothing, and plastic objects. Also, prepare for tragedy in advance by having a clear escape plan. The plan should include a meeting place and emergency contacts. And most importantly, make sure all windows and doors can easily be opened from the inside of the home.
