Former Dixon Comptroler Rita Crundwell is going to be spending also 2 decades behind bars. A federal judge sentenced her to 19 years and 7 months in prison yesterday morning for stealing over 53 million dollars from the town during a 20-year period.
The 59-year old Crundwell had plead guilty to the federal charge of wire fraud.
Defense attorneys in the case were hoping to get around 15 years in prison.
It's believed that the thefts date back all to way to the 1990's and were used to fund Crundwell's horse business and lavish lifestyle.
Many of the items owned by Crundwell have been sold during recent auctions. The list includes nearly 400 horses along with vehicles and property.
