Winnebago school officials expect to make a decision later this month on who their new superintendent will be. 1 of the final 2 candidates is Rochelle Township High School principal Travis McGuire.
The board is looking for a replacement for Dennis Harezlak who plans to retire on June 30th.
The other finalist for the position is Scott Bloomquist who is the principal at Iroquois West Upper Elementary School district in Thawville, Illinois. The school district is located in central Illinois.
Site visits by a Winnebago school committee took place in both school districts involving the 2 final candidates last week. School officials may make a decision on their new superintendent during their meeting on February 18th.
As reported last month on Newstalk 1060, McGuire was in Winnebago to meet with faculty members along with board and community leaders. He has been principal at RTHS since 2006.
McGuire has also been an administrator in the Sterling School District.
Harezlak has been superintendent at Winnebago since July of 2002. The district has 16 hundred students.
25 people had applied for the superintendent's position. The Boone-Winnebago Regional Office of Education assisted the district in the search of the final 2 candidates for the position.
