It ended up being a short stay at the halfway house in Chicago yesterday morning for former Governor George Ryan. After being released overnight from a federal prison in Terre Haute, Indiana, Ryan reported to the Salvation Army halfway house on the city's near west side. But hours later, Ryan was allowed to travel to his home in Kankakee where he will spend the last six months of his six-and-a-half-year prison term for corruption. The nearly 79-year-old Ryan didn't speak to reporters during his stop in Chicago, or in Kankakee. Former Governor Jim Thompson, who accompanied Ryan yesterday, said that Ryan is grateful for the encouragement and support from many people.
