Residents in Rochelle are hit hard again with a sharp increase in prices at the gas pump this weekend.
Several businesses jumped the price by as much as 20 cents a gallon for unleaded fuel during the past week.
Most businesses last week started with a price for unleaded fuel at $3.29 a gallon. That figure rose to $3.35 on Thursday and then the big jump to $3.49 on Friday.
The high prices are seen on the north and east sides of Rochelle. Businesses on the south side of the Hub City are selling unleaded gas for $3.43 a gallon or 6 cents cheaper.
Rochelle Mayor Chet Olson has contacted both the Governor's office and the Illinois Attorney General along with the Illinois Commerce Commission about the gas prices in the community. He has checked with a number of area cities and villages that remain 10 to 20 cents cheaper on a daily basis than businesses in Rochelle. He hopes a state official will investigate the situation in Rochelle dealing with the possible gas gauging issue in the community.
