Preliminary numbers indicate that fewer deer were killed in Illinois during this past season than a year ago.
The state's deer hunting season came to an end last weekend with archery hunters. 180,699 deer were harvest during this season, 782 fewer than a year ago.
The firearm season did see an increase this year with 1,641 more deer killed.
Numbers in Ogle and Lee counties were up. 2,046 deer were harvested in Ogle County, 56 more than the previous year before. Lee County saw an increase of 15 deer at 1,350.
DeKalb county saw a slight decline in numbers by 8. 429 deer were killed this year.
During this past season, hunters in Illinois took 49 percent does and 51 percent males.
