Bond set for Poplar Grove Woman in Rochelle home invasion case

An Ogle County judge set bond at $250,000 today for a Poplar Grove woman in connection with a home invasion incident that took place last month in Rochelle.

24-year old Melissa Christianson has been charged with the Class "X" felony offense. Physical evidence was recovered during the investigation by local police with the assistance from authorities in Phoenix, Arizona. Rochelle Police Chief Eric Higby said that Christianson told authorities in Arizona about the home invasion incident prior to her arrest.

The female victim suffered a cut to the throat during the altercation. She did receive medical treatment. A small amount of money was taken from her purse.

Local police had also issued a warrant for the arrest of 34-year old Shundale Haney of Rochelle who was involved with the home invasion. He died on Wednesday following a high speed car chase with Texas State police. He was driving a stolen vehicle from Rockford.

Haney was also on parole for the felony offense of robbery.

Christianson remains in jail in lieu of bond. She returns to Ogle County court on February 13th for a preliminary hearing. At that time, she will plead guilty or innocent to the felony offense.
