Convicted killer wants a new trial

Convicted killer Nicholas Sheley of Sterling wants a new trial in Whiteside County.

The 33-year old was found guilty last November in the murder of 93-year old Russell Reed of Sterling. The killing took place in June of 2008.

Sheley's attorney has filed a motion which has 89 judicial errors during the trial. This included members of the jury who had prior knowledge of the case.

Sheley is scheduled to be sentenced on January 16th. This is the same day a motion hearing will take place about a new trial in the case.

Sheley is already serving a life sentence in prison for the murder of 65-year old Ronald Randall of Galesburg.
He has also been charged with the murder of 4 Rock Falls residents and a couple from Missouri in the summer of 2008.
