Hub Project begins January 14th in Rochelle

The "Hub Project" begins on January 14th for students in the Rochelle elementary school district dealing with children who are having some problems in the classroom.

The district has received a 21st century community learning center grant for the next 5 years involving the program. Up to 350 students will be involved in the after school classes.

During this week's program "Let The People Know", Project Manager Jodee Craven talked about the 2 subjects that will be stressed in the classrooms, math and literacy.

More than 30 organizations will also give their time in helping the students and their parents in a number of areas. The list includes the Flagg-Rochelle Community Park District, Rochelle Community Hospital, along with Kishwaukee Community College, and NIU in DeKalb.

Craven stressed that they want the program to be different for the children rather than the day to day schedule in school.

"Let The People Know" is heard on Wednesday afternoons at 12:30 on Newstalk 1060 and re-broadcast Saturday mornings at 6 on Newstalk 1060 and Sunday mornings at 6 on "The Coyote", 102.3FM.

Next week's guest will be Gredco Director Jason Anderson of Rochelle.
