Rochelle City Council Meeting (Updated)

City officials in Rochelle have decided to spend $35,000 to have a study completed to see if they want to get into the communication business and battle companies such as Comcast, Verizon, and Frontier.

The study, which should be completed within 90 days, will give information on costs for the city along with market share. There are currently around 36 hundred homes in Rochelle.

The fiber to the homes would be part of a project that RMU is doing involving underground service.

The council had no objections about doing the study, but they do have concerns about getting into this type of business.

City officials did approve the tax levy ordinance last night with an increase of just over 8%. A home valued at $100,000 is looking at a rise on their tax bill of just over $14 a year.

Work will be done on Veterans Parkway in 2013. The city's cost of the $452,000 project will be around $100,000.

Bids were also approved for RMU involving a new bucket truck at a cost of $92,000 and rotating digger equipment at $166,000.
