Sexual assault charges against a former NIU police officer have been dropped due to information being withheld in the case by the university's police department.
DeKalb County State's Attorney Clay Campbell dismissed the charges against Andrew Rifkin after hearing what took place between NIU police Chief Donald Grady and a computer forensic expert for NIU.
Rifkin, who is 24 years old, was fired from the NIU police department on October 28th of 2011 the same day the alleged victim brought up the allegations. She alleged that Rifkin had assaulted her at his apartment in Cortland.
Campbell said that the forensic expert removed files from Grady's laptop and put them on a flash drive.
Grady has been placed on administrative leave along with a Lieutenant in the deparrtment for failing to report 2 witness statements in the case. The 2 were friends of the alleged victim and said that Rifkin and the girl had an ongoing consensual sexual relationship.
