Unemployment rate drops in area

A new report shows that the unemployment rate in Ogle County dropped by nearly 2 percent in October compared to numbers a year ago.

The jobless figure was at 9.9 percent which is 1.8 percent lower than a year ago.

Officials say that manufacturing jobs continue to be on the rise in the area which is 1 reason for the decline in numbers.

The unemployment rate also dropped in Boone and Winnebago counties last month.

The state's jobless rate was at 8.8 percent in October, down just over 1 percent from 2011 numbers.

Rockford remains the highest city in the state with a 12.4 percent unemployment figure.
