Winnebago County Officials say that 4 police officers were involved in the deadly shooting of a Rockford man early Thursday morning.
31-year old Demetrius Bennett suffered fatal injuries after police responded to a domestic incident.
Reports indicate that Bennett allegedly charged police with a steak knife before shots were fired.
Initial reports indicated that he was at 1 time shielding himself with a child. Further investigation into the altercation indicated that he had released the child prior to the shooting.
Bennett was shot multiple times by police.
This is the 3rd fatal shooting this year involving Rockford officers.
The 4 officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative duty.
