Jury selection continues in murder case for a Sterling man

Jury selection continues today for a Sterling man in connection with a murder which took place in Whiteside County in the summer of 2008.

33-year old Nicholas Sheley has been charged with 8 counts of 1st degree murder in the killing of 93-year old Russell Reed of Sterling whose body was found in a trunk of a car.

Sheley has also been charged with home invasion and residential burglary.

Sheley is currently in prison on a life sentence involving the murder of a Galesburg man in 2008. He's also been charged in the death of a 2-year old and 3 adults in Rock Falls and an Arkansas couple in Missouri during the summer of 2008.

One of the motives behind the killing of Reed was that Sheley needed money to buy crack cocaine.

Only 4 jurors were chosen for the trial yesterday, 2 men and 2 women. 8 more people need to be picked along with 2 alternates.

The trial in Whiteside County is not expected to last more than 2 weeks.
