A spokesperson for the state Department of Public Health says Illinois likely has its first case of fungal meningitis connected to the current nationwide outbreak. Melaney Arnold said that a Chicago resident has, quote, "signs of meningitis" and received an injection of the possibly tainted steroid linked to the outbreak. Arnold declined to identify the person or give further details. The nationwide meningitis outbreak linked to a Massachusetts compounding pharmacy has so far killed 15 people and sickened over 200.
