Fatal Shooting by police in Rockford

An 18-year old male subject is dead following a shooting with police in Rockford yesterday.

3 officers have been placed on administrative leave following the incident.

The shooting occurred around 2 on South Central Avenue at Cypress Terrace.

Police say that a family member of the victim called them about the welfare of the 18-year old. They also said he may be armed with a gun.

Police found the subject a short time later as he ran from officers prior to the shooting.

The Winnebago County Integrity Task Force is investigating the incident. This group was formed after the Mark Anthony Barmore shooting in 2009.

Other details involving the shooting and the name of the victim are not being released at this time.

This is the 3rd shooting this year involving police officers in Rockford that resulted in a fatality.
