After years of sitting empty, the Thomson Prison is finally sold to the U.S. Department of Justice for $165 million dollars. The announcement was made Tuesday by Illinois Senator Dick Durbin who says it will generate one-thousand new jobs in Illinois. State leaders are applauding the sale which will generate some much needed cash for the state. The sale sidesteps Virginia Congressman Frank Wolf, who has blocked the sale for three years out of concern that Guantanamo Bay detainees might be housed there. Federal law now prevents that. A full transfer of inmates could come by the end of the year.
