Lee County Sheriff's police have ticketed a Franklin Grove man after the car he was driving struck a Steward man last July while he rode his bike. Pronounced dead at the scene was 73-year old Richard Kalla.
37-year old Steven Brown of Franklin Grove was ticketed for failure to exercise do care in avoiding a person riding a bike and failure to maintain a safe distance while passing a person on a bike.
The accident took place on Perry Road, just east of Illinois 251, in rural Steward.
Both Brown and Kalla were traveling west bound on Perry road.
There was damage to the windshield of Brown's car. Perry Road is paved.
Sheriff's police say that Brown was not on a cell phone or texting when the incident took place. He also had no alcohol or drugs in his system.
Kalla was not wearing a helmet while riding his bike.
