Judge finds former Sycamore man guilty of murder

A Kane County judge has found a former Sycamore man guilty of kidnapping and murder of a 7-year old girl nearly 55 years ago.

72-year old Jack McCullough of Seattle, Washington had been charged with murder, kidnapping and abduction of a child in the death of Maria Ridulph of Sycamore.

The child went missing in 1957. She was found 5 months later in Jo Daviess County.

A forensic scientist testified this week that the girl had 3 deep stab wound to her chest.

A prisoner who shared a jail cell with McCullough also said that he confessed to killing the girl.

McCullough did not testify during this bench trial. His attorneys said that he was in Rockford and Chicago the day the girl went missing.

Following closing argument Friday, Kane County Associate Judge James Hallock made his ruling.

A sentencing hearing date was set for November 30th in DeKalb County court in Sycamore.

The bench trial lasted 5 days.
