Former Rochelle resident wins NFL contest

A former Rochelle resident will be in New York City tomorrow night as part of 32 winners in the 1st "NFL Fan Flag Challenge" contest.

The NFL launched the contest for all 32 teams in order to celebrate the upcoming 93rd season of the league.

Andy Graber of Rockford was the winner of the "Flag Contest" for the Seattle Seahawks, his favorite team in the NFL.

Graber, a graduate of Rochelle Township High School, said he was surprised that he was 1 of the 32 winners.

He said that he wrote an essay of under 100 words describing what the flag should look like for the "Seahawks".

Andy said the team used 3 of his ideas about the flag.

Graber and his wife Jodi are scheduled to fly out today to New York City to be part of the NFL season opener between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants. He said that there are a number of activities scheduled for Wednesday which includes a concert with Miriah Carey and the band "No Doubt".

Local residents may be able to see Andy on National TV Wednesday during the Pre-Game show between 6:30 and 7:30 on NBC. He said that part of the "NFL Fan Flag Challenge" ceremony will be broadcast.

Graber is a Social Studies teacher at Rockford Christian High School and also coaches golf for the boys and girls programs.
