Residents in Rochelle saw another sharp increase at the gas pump yesterday. Prices have risen by as much as 54 cents a gallon for unleaded fuel at businesses in the Hub City this week.
The 1st price hike occurred on Monday when the figure changed from $3.45 a gallon for gas to $3.69.
That number changed by 10 cents a gallon at most businesses in Rochelle yesterday to $3.79 a gallon for unleaded fuel. There is 1 business in the Hub City on the South side that increased the pump price by 20 cents or $3.99 gallon.
State officials say that refinery problems in Illinois and Indiana are behind the gas price increase this week. The supply problems are at the BP refinery in Whiting, Indiana and a Citgo refinery in Lemont.
The Triple-A Chicago Motor Club reports that this is the 1st time in months that drivers are paying prices higher in August than a year ago
