Rochelle rescue (Update)

A Rochelle man suffered a broken vertebrae in his back along with an injured ankle early yesterday morning after he fell through the top of a old wooden water tower on the roof of the Lagrou building at 150 Avenue "E'.

The incident took place a short time before 5:30.

Fire department personnel went on the roof of the building for the rescue. Authorities say that 24-year old Jared Norris of Rochelle fell about 20 feet from the top of the roof of the wooden water tower.

The firemen cut into the side of the tower and used a series of ropes to get Norris out of the structure. He apparently had a fight with his wife earlier in the morning before he climbed up on the roof of the LaGrou building to drink some beers.

Norris was first taken by ambulance to Rochelle Community Hospital for treatment of his injuries. He was later transported to OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.

Local police continue to investigate the incident as charges are pending against Norris
