Traffic was backed up for several miles yesterday on I-90 near Belvidere following a 2-vehicle crash which resulted in 5 injuries.
Illinois State Police report that an east bound car swerved to avoid another vehicle. The car then struck another auto as both vehicles left the highway near Genoa road.
Police say that 1 car started on fire following the collision.
1 person in that vehicle was airlifted from the scene with serious burns. The other 4 people injured also received treatment at area hospitals.
The injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
The east bound lane of I-90 near Belvidere was closed for about a half hour for emergency personnel on the scene.
