A Leaf River man was back in Ogle County court Monday for a status hearing following the stabbing of a couple in July of 2011.
27-year old Michael Mitchell has been charged with 4 counts of attempted 1st degree murder and aggravated battery along with 2 counts of home invasion.
The altercation took place July 3rd of last year at 205 East 2nd street in Leaf River, the home of David and Denise Zellers.
Mitchell allegedly broke into the home and stabbed the couple with a knife several times. Both Zellers received treatment for their injuries at a Rockford hospital.
Police say that Mitchell earlier in the day had complained about his water to David Zellers who works for the water department in Leaf River.
He has been ruled fit to stand trial.
In court yesterday, the status hearing was continued as the defense is still looking for an expert in their case. Mitchell returns to court for another hearing on July 23rd in Oregon.
He remains in jail in lieu of a 1 million dollar bond.
