Big changes are ahead for the Postal Service. Mail processing plant closings could begin as early as next week. A federal regulator cleared the way for the closings by denying a request from a labor union to block the closings. The Postal Service wants to shutter 140 facilities which includes Rockford. The moves are part of an effort to save more than two-billion-dollars and trim five-percent of its workforce. An official with the American Postal Workers Union says the denial shows the need for more public input into plans for cost savings at the Postal Service.
