Student loan rates may not double after all. Congress has struck a deal that keeps rates from going up for at least a year. About eight million students would've had to dish out an additional one thousand dollars in interest over the life of their loan, which would've taken effect on Sunday. The deal is being coupled with a Transportation bill that dedicates 100-billion dollars toward roads, bridges, and other transit construction projects. It's expected to pass later today with support from both sides of the aisle.
