The village of Ashton will be receiving a grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to help pay for a splash pad in the community.
Mayor John Martinez said that the land around the splash pad will be landscaped with a picnic shelter along with park benches. The entire area will be attractive to everyone.
Martinez said that the shelter will be funded by a grant from the Union Pacific Railroad and the Blum Foundation will provide the matching funds needed for the construction.
The matching grant was for $117,500.
