City Officials in Rochelle hope to see construction work begin next year dealing with the extension of the runway at the Municipal Airport.
The project would increase the runway from 4,226 feet to 5,000 feet. Airport Superintendent Don Elliott said the city will receive grant money for the project.
The city remains in negotiations with the owners of the property needed for the longer runway. They hope to close on the land in July.
Mark Delhotal has been named the new Airport Manager at Koritiz Field. He will be in charge of the day to day operations at the facility.
The restaurant at the Chicagoland Sky Diving Center is scheduled to be open July 7th. The parking lot has also been completed.
City officials remain concerned that area pilots won't land in Rochelle for fuel due to the Sky Diving Center. Figures show that they are down 20 percent in the sale of fuel this fiscal year. Elliott said they are working on the problem and that Rochelle is 1 of the few airports in Illinois who offers this feature.
