Americans with health care costs covered by Medicare could soon face higher fees. A congressional agency is recommending Medicare beneficiaries pay more money upfront for medical services to help the program cope with rising costs. A report issued Friday by the nonpartisan Medicare Payment Advisory Commission recommends a new, 20-percent charge for Medicare beneficiaries who purchase supplemental insurance to cover costs that Medicare Part A and Part B don't cover.
