Ceremony for new school (Updated)

The official ground breaking ceremony was held yesterday for the new Lincoln School in Rochelle as local and state officials attended the event.

The 20 million dollar building will be located on the West side of  the 20th Street extension and will be open for students in the 2013-14 school year.

Superintendent Todd Prusator said that Monday was a day the district has been waiting for involving several years.

The project includes a 12.6 million dollar school construction grant from the State's Capital Development Board. The building will have 22 classrooms along with  Gymnasium and Cafeteria.

Board President Jean Tess said it will be a state of the art facility for the students.

Lincoln School will replace the current Lincoln Grade School at 1st Avenue and Main Street which is over 100 years old. It will have students Pre-k through 5th grade.
