Federal officials filed a motion in court yesterday to sell more than 400 horses and other property that belong to former Dixon Comptroller Rita Crundwell.
The 59-year old Crundwell has been indicted on the charge of wire fraud. She alledgedly misappropriated more than 53 million dollars of Dixon city funds over a 2 decade period. Crundwell is scheduled for another hearing in Rockford later today.
Magistrate Judge P. Michael Mahoney has yet to rule on the motion filed yesterday.
Federal prosecutors say that Crundwell used most of the city funds to pay for her horses and lavish lifestyle. This included homes in Dixon and Florida along with a 2 million dollar Motorhome.
The U.S. Marshalls Service is currently taking care of the horses. Most of Crundwell's assets have been seized by federal authorities.
