The State Board of Education Chairman backs a proposal that would require another year of math for high school students in Illinois.
Gery Chico says that students need 4 years of math which is essential in today's job market instead of the current 3 years
Chico said that the additional year does not just apply to jobs in the future for a person.
The current proposal awaits action from Governor Pat Quinn. Critics say that the additional year of math may force students to drop out of school.
