Rochelle Relay For Life To Take Place Saturday

Rochelle Community Hospital invites you to stop by the 18th Annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life at Helms Field this Saturday, June 9 anytime from noon to midnight. This year's theme is "Carnival For a Cure". Anyone in the community is welcome to stop by and participate in the activities.

You can still purchase a luminaria to honor a friend or loved one at any bank in Rochelle or at RCH until Friday and they will be for sale at Relay. Cost is $10 per name. At 9 p.m., we hope to have a bagpiper to begin the luminaria ceremony when all the names will be read.

Some of the food teams are selling at lunch (around the concession stand): lemon shake-ups, fresh popcorn, BBQ sandwiches, water, crystal light, nachos, snowcones, hot dogs, fruit on a stick, chips, pop, brownies, walking tacos, smores on a stick, salad shakers, potatoe wedges, cotton candy.

Some of the kids games/activities: bouncy house sponsored by Kiwanis, clown bag toss, ring toss, hula hoop, a pinata, sucker game, tattoos, horseshoes, water balloon volleyball and a volleyball tournament, grand prize game, bags tournament at 2 p.m., fishing game, sign up for the Park Districk's kickball tournament from 3-5 p.m. (age 16+)

Drawing at RCH tent for a free mammogram screening or free PSA test.

Things for sale at campsites: breast cancer basket, family fun basket, handmade breast cancer bracelets, ribbon cookie cutters, glow in the dark items, embroidered items, 2012 Relay glow bracelets, little girls tutu raffle, purple hair feathers, 50/50 raffle, samsung tablet raffle, raffle for handmade Winnie the Pooh baby quilt and glow necklaces.

Live auction items we know so far: Golf bag with towel, jacket, balls & tees; assorted baskets, breast cancer quilted purse, scrapbook basket, sweatshirt appliqued with "I'm a Survivor" on the front, cedar stool, 4 ft. steel purple ribbon yard ornament, quilt, 2 wine glasses with bottle of wine, lotto ticket, 1 candle set, Carry on tote, Tastefully Simple Basket, swimming pool bag, tupperware goodie basket (RCH!), ladies golf bag cooler, Dualsaw CS 450, Crescent CTK148mp 148-piece professional tool set, toolbox treasures, Jonnesway 107pc SAW/Metric socket set, pottery with food items added, wood sculpture, baby boy and baby girl shower items.

The Relay Idol Contest begins at 4:00 p.m. and feature the first 10 contestants (over age 18) to sign up that day beginning at noon in the Relay tent on the field. You must bring you own CD or .mp3 file with the song you are performing. The winner is determined by $1 votes for each contestant. The Relay Idol will be a guest DJ on WRHL Radio.
