Judge's ruling delayed for Chamness

An Ogle County Judge will announce his ruling next week dealing with a Rochelle man who has requested a new trial in connection with a shooting which took place in May of 2011 in the Hub City.

No one suffered any injuries.

An ogle county jury found 28-year old Charles Chamness guilty of 2 counts of aggravated battery last February. He was found not guilty of 2 counts of attempted 1st degree murder.

The shooting occurred in the 800 block of Treatment Plant Road in Rochelle. Police say that Chamness shot at a local resident along with a vehicle in the area.

Chamness filed the motion on Tuesday. He felt the state did not prove that he was involved in the shooting during the testimony. He was also not in favor of some of the rulings before and during the trial made by Circuit Judge Michael Mallon.

Judge Mallon's ruling will be announced next Thursday as the attorney for Chamness was unavailable to be in the courtroom yesterday.

Chamness faces a sentence of 4 to 30 years in prison. He remains in jail.

Chamness also has a drug case pending in Ogle County dealing with the possession of cocaine.
