Police departments in Illinois remain concerned about the new cannabis law for 2020

Police departments throughout Illinois have numerous concerns when the new cannabis law begins in 2020.

Arrests may be difficult due to recreational marijuana next year. Ogle County Sheriff Briam VanVickle said there is no way to test in the field involving cannabis. He said the department is looking at no refusal search warrants for blood draws, but that will not be ready by January 1st.

VanVickle was a guest this week on the program "Let The People Know". He said that in talking with police departments in Colorado, the program brings in revenue, but there are many hidden costs and unfunded mandates to go along with the law.

Many police departments are also looking at changes in their K-9 program with the new law.

"Let The People Know" is heard on Wednesday morning at 8:30 on Good Time Oldies 1060 and rebroadcast Sunday morning at 7 on WRHL and at 6:30 on The Coyote.

Next week's guest will be Rochelle City Clerk Sue Messer as she talks about the 2020 Census and the impact it has on communities in Illinois.
