A bipartisan group of state lawmakers is proposing a new version of gun dealer regulations. The bill is intended to replace the one Governor Rauner vetoed and respond to his concerns.
Senator Don Harmon says the revised plan drops a licensing requirement and now calls for gun dealers to be certified by the state. Dealers would have to make sure inventory is secured, employees are trained and stores have video surveillance. Harmon says this bill is simpler and just as effective as the previous version. The measure also places restrictions on private gun sales.
