It was the final Rochelle city council meeting last night for Clerk Bruce McKinney who plans to retire after nearly 24 years.
McKinney was appointed to the position in August of 1994. His final working day will be May 1st while the last day as a city employee is June 30th.
McKinney said he was happy and sad. He said it was an honor for him to work with the Mayor, city council, staff, and citizens of Rochelle.
Bruce said he plans to do some traveling once retired and visit some family members. He will also keep busy with the Ogle County board.
McKinney is up for re-election on the Ogle County board in November.
The city council approved a proclamation having it "Bruce McKinney Day" on May 1st. An open house will be held at City Hall from 3 until 4:30.
Sue Messer was also sworn in last night as the new City Clerk for Rochelle. She had been the assistant to the city manager and will remain in that position.
RoseMary Hueramo and Jennifer Thompson were also sworn in as Deputy Clerks for the city.
Joanne Peters is also retiring after 32 years with the city. Her last day is Wednesday.
She had worked in many departments in the city that includes police, RMU, and at City Hall.
