Rochelle commission recommends 2 zoning changes for city officials

The Rochelle Planning and Zoning Commission made 2 recommendations last night to city officials dealing with land on the south side of town along with a building in the downtown area.

In a 5-0 vote, the commission approved the rezoning of property at 300 Steward Road from light industry to B-2 commercial highway.

Hub City Development, LLC owns the 48 acres just east of the Love's Travel Stops and Country Stores. There are no plans set yet for the property, but future businessses could be located on the land such as a gas station or a restaurant.

Love's Travel Stops and Country Stores plans to begin construction in late May and is scheduled to be open in December or the first part of 2019.

The second recommendation from the commission dealt with rezoning the building at 501 West 6th Avenue from residential office to B1 commercial central business.

There are currently 6 businesses in the building. An art studio is expected to open in the future.

The owners plan to have an entrance off Lincoln Highway. The zoning change would also allow for future expansion of the building.

The vote was 5-0 from the commission to approve the rezoning proposal to the city council.
