Report shows Illinois roads and bridges in bad shape

A national organization of civil engineers is confirming what Illinois drivers already knew from experience. The state's roads and other infrastructure are in bad shape. The American Society of Civil Engineers graded the state with a "C-minus" for the condition of not only roads, but also bridges, airports, rail lines and drinking water systems.

The group says Illinois citizens are paying the price for four years of pension crises, budget stalemates and unpaid bills. The state's grade is unchanged from the last rating in 2014 and is still better than the national average grade of "D-plus."
