Thousands of people honored the memory of fallen Chicago Police Commander Paul Bauer this weekend.
Bauer's colleagues were moved to tears at his funeral yesterday as they recounted his kindness, heroism and selfless service. The Nativity of Our Lord Church was full to capacity as over 300 out-of-town police departments were represented and the entire 18th District attended "to lay their beloved Commander to rest."
Bauer was fatally shot last Tuesday while helping a tactical team apprehend a suspicious person at the Thompson Center. Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner said, "today, all of us are blue, adding that, "we are blue in part because we are sad, we are broken-hearted to lose such a heroic man. But more importantly we are blue because we are proud.
