A Cook County judge is denying bail to 44-year-old four-time felon Shomari Legghette for the murder of Chicago Police Commander Paul Bauer.
Superintendent Eddie Johnson was in the courtroom yesterday when Legghette was formally charged with first-degree murder of a police officer, aggravated use of a weapon by a felon and drug charges.
Legghette was fleeing from police when Bauer confronted him near the Thompson Center Tuesday and was mortally wounded. Visitation for Bauer will be today at the Nativity of Our Lord Church in Bridgeport and funeral services will be Saturday morning.
