Charges are pending after a Chicago police commander was shot and killed in the Thompson Center downtown. Commander Paul Bauer was gunned down yesterday while assisting a tactical team that was chasing a man in the state government office building. Officers arrested a suspect, who was reportedly wearing body armor. Despite initial reports, a police spokesman says Bauer was on duty at the time of the shooting.
The suspect is a four-time felon with a lengthy arrest record and who spent 16 years in prison for a 1998 robbery.
