The City of Rochelle is looking at 2 big road projects they hope to get completed later this year.
Construction will begin when the weather breaks on South Main Street near VFW Park. City Engineer Sam Tesreau said that the street will become a Class 2 truck route and handle vehicles up to 80,000 pounds.
The project includes curb and gutter along with a pedestrian path on 1 side of the street that will extend to Steward Road.
There will also be a traffic signal installed at the intersection of South Main Street and Steward Road. The area will be made larger for traffic involving semi-trucks.
The second project involves the replacement of the bridge on 7th Avenue near the Little League fields.
Tesreau said that bids will go out this summer for the 1.2 million dollar project. The new bridge will look similar to the one on School Avenue.
7th Avenue will be close for 3 to 4 months while the work is being done.
