Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan is joining the fight against a federal rule change that would give employers control of the tips given to hourly workers like restaurant servers.
Madigan and 16 other attorneys general are formally opposing the Trump Labor Department's plan to rescind an Obama-era rule mandating that tipped workers keep their tips.
Under the proposed change, employers would take the tips and decide how to share them with other employees like cooks and dishwashers who don't have public contact. The rule would only apply to those businesses that pay their workers the federal minimum wage of seven-25-an-hour.
